Review: Preacher, Vol. 4: Ancient History

Preacher, Vol. 4: Ancient History
Preacher, Vol. 4: Ancient History by Garth Ennis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A nice volume! It includes three background stories of some secondary characters of the Preacher saga.
My favorite has to be the Saint of Killers background story. Amazing writing.
The artwork is unbelievable, as always…
An awesome read!

Review: Divergent

Divergent
Divergent by Veronica Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an amazing book! I’m beginning to really like this Dystopian Young Adult genre.
And for such a young writer..
We know that it will be compared to the Hunger Games trilogy, of course it will. But in a way, I believe this trilogy will be more compelling.
This book really blew me away. Can’t wait for the next one…
Please write faster, Veronica Roth!

Review: Stardust

Stardust
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A wonderful fairytale story, Neil Gaiman style. I simply adored this book! Since I’ve yet to watch the movie, I started reading this book without any preconceptions about the characters. My favorite character of the book is Yvaine.
The only thing I have to complain about this book is that it was a little shorter than I expected. This world is so rich it would deserve additional books.

Review: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 2

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 2
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 2 by Philip K. Dick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Again, like the previous one, the artwork is great. But I think the direct transcription of the novel text, a lot of it, mind you, might have damaged the graphic novel.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 1
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 1 by Philip K. Dick
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A different way of looking into one of the best books I’ve ever read. But it kind of misses some of the points. In my opinion, there is a lot of narrative, too much for a graphic novel. In some pages the narrative almost engulfed the artwork altogether. Artwork that is very good and should be given a little more focus, like any kind of graphic novel. Don’t get me wrong, the text was great, and was almost transcribed ad verbatim from the book, but I think that for a graphic novel, it lacked a “je ne sais quois”.

Review: Preacher, Vol. 3: Proud Americans

Preacher, Vol. 3: Proud Americans
Preacher, Vol. 3: Proud Americans by Garth Ennis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This series just keeps getting better and better… The “Da Vinci Code” storyline was finally resolved.
In this volume we get two background stories. The story of Jesse’s father and how Cassidy come to become Cassidy. This last part was my favorite of the whole volume.
The artwork is amazing. Really top noch. Somehow the recycled paper of this volume makes it look even better than the plain papper of the previous volumes.

Review: Preacher, Vol. 2: Until the End of the World

Preacher, Vol. 2: Until the End of the World
Preacher, Vol. 2: Until the End of the World by Garth Ennis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I approached this book with doubts. I personally didn’t like the first part of the story in this volume, the Gran’Ma storyline. But I managed to hold on and I’m glad I did. The second part of the story, about an evil international corporation that has a secret about the true origins of Jesus Christ is an amazing plot. Mind you this was written several years before the crappy “Da Vinci Code” and somehow, it seems similar… Perhaps Dan Brown is a Preacher fan!
The artwork is amazing, I really enjoyed it.
If at the beginning of the book I had doubts about continuing to read this series, those doubts were obliterated at the end of this book. A great series indeed…

Review: Welcome to Lovecraft

Welcome to Lovecraft
Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an amazing book!
The story is very good. A family struck by tragedy takes residence in a new house full of secrets and magical keys and doors. Kind of Neil Gaiman-ish… Which I love!
The artwork is jaw-dropping, really good stuff.
I am hooked on this series…
